In the late 1940’s the education department tried to extend Trent Bridge School onto the Recreation Ground. The following is taken from the response of the Town Clerk, J.E.Richards, to the Education department were he stresses the uniqueness of this Open space and that the whole area was for public recreation only. With Football being played on just a few occasions during the week the area is freely open for the public to enjoy, to play casual sport or just use as an ‘escape’ :
